Being Liberal in Texas
I stand at the Barnes & Noble counter — bedazzled crosses, and notepads with Bible verses greet me there. Behind me, there are two women talking about how they like a singer’s music, but don’t like to support it much because he’s “left wing”. And I hold up my book to buy it — “Full Frontal Feminism” by Jessica Valenti. The cashier tries to hide her look of disgust, and I can only imagine the looks I’m being given by the women behind me if they can see what I’m buying.
Damn. What a minority I am.

I’m so grateful that I live in Austin because of situations like that. We’ll always support you though :)

Good grief, it’s that bad?! I’m in Houston and I’ve never had to put up with that kind of crap, but it might just be because I’m in a big city.
